A common treatment for yeast infections are over the counter medications creams, and pills. There are also more natural yeast infection treatments, commonly called home remedies.

The most common home remedy treatment for a yeast infection is plain yogurt. Plain yogurt needs to be of the unsweetened variety, because sugar actually feeds yeast. For the simplest treatment, just eating plain yogurt helps relieve yeast infections. For fast relief of itching and discomfort, apply yogurt to the outside affected area, or coat a tampon in the yogurt then insert. Garlic is another natural remedy used to treat yeast infections. Uses for garlic included orally, or applied to the site of infection. The easiest way to do this is to insert either a garlic tablet, or clove. Garlic tablets should be natural and without any artificial ingredients. Drinking a garlic clove added to water is another way to use garlic, but the taste may be slightly unbearable.

Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits, including uses for yeast infection treatments. If using apple cider vinegar, it should include the mother. This type is usually available at health food stores. Do not use white vinegar, because it actually increases the yeast, instead of reducing it. Since apply cider vinegar is acidic, it should not be applied directly to skin. To avoid the burning sensation, add about a cup of apple cider vinegar with mother to bath water. Drinking the proper amount of water also helps relieve yeast infection symptoms. It helps flush sugar out of the system, preventing it from feeding the yeast infection.

Certain things need to be avoided when treating a yeast infection, because they aid in the production of yeast. Any antibiotic or birth control weakens the immune system’s ability to fight the infection. Avoid eating sugary and refined foods, because they contain or aid yeast. Tight clothing, and any underwear not made of cotton should not be worn, because they encourage the growth of yeast. When considering a treatment for a yeast infection, a physician should be consulted to rule out any other health issues.
