Lake Placid New York
Lake Placid, an Adirondack Village may be best known for hosting the 1980 Winter Olympics (think of the famous American hockey victory over the Soviet Union, “The Miracle on Ice”, and before that for co-hosting the 1932 Olympics. However, there is much more history to the area, and even more to do as a vacation destination. This area of the Adirondack Mountains was thriving over 100 years before the 1932 Olympics, as it was home to John Brown, a famed abolitionist before his raid on Harper’s Ferry. Nowadays, thousands of vacationers and nature buffs come out Lake Placid New York every year for the water sports, golfing, hunting, fishing, shopping, skiing, and much more.
