A Mother’s Vacation
While I was in college, my parents got a divorce and moved on in different directions in life. My mother decided that she was going to take some time off and travel the world. Seeing as how both my sister and I were out of the house and in college and living self sustained lifestyles, she saw an opportunity to take a long deserved break. She packed up all her resort wear and hopped on a flight for the Mediterranean. She then proceeded to travel all over Europe, occasionally calling me stateside to update me on her whereabouts.
One time, I remember getting a call late at night, or early in the morning if you’re being picky about it, and she told me all about the huge sale she happened to walk by in this little city in somewhere town Europe. She went into a lot of detail about all the different kinds of cotton tunic they had and all the intricate hard carved statues and handmade jewelry. I remember interrupting her to tell her it was really late and I was still in school.
I’m not at all upset over her decision to travel abroad. She sacrificed a lot for me and my sister growing up and now that we were out of the house, it was totally her time to live it up. If she wants to wear womens linen shirts and hit up every beach in Europe, all I have to say about that it is, have a great time and bring me back presents!
