Feeding Your Turtle

Most pet turtles are omnivorous creatures. Omnivorous means they eat both meat and flora. This is similar to most humans. Some turtles are just carnivores, which means they eat only meat, and some are herbivores — or like the human vegetarian, eating only vegetables and plants. When taking care of turtles, owners need to know what kind of diet the turtle needs to eat. Some may not eat daily and only weekly or monthly. Others may be able to eat one kind of fish or bug, but not a different kind. The best way to find all of this information out is to educate yourself about the turtles you plan to raise and keep as pets. Ask your local animal hospital or aquarium. Ask the prior owner or friends who also have similar pets. Read up in various books and Internet Web sites. The only way you can be sure to raise a healthy pet is to know what you’re doing before you do it.
