Mind and body interdependence in excellent sports performance.

It is a realized fact that most athletes train their bodies well but very few of them train their minds. With their minds practically ‘weak’, no matter how much their body strength is or how much they are physically fit, they end up performing poorly. This is the reason why sports psychologists are useful in helping athletes know the interdependence between their minds and their bodies when participating in sports. Both your body and your mind must play a critical role in keeping you in the right shape for the game. If one of them is not prepared well, expect nothing but the worst. The following is just an insight on how you should prepare your body and your mind to become a formidable athlete. When it comes to the body, concentration should be given to fitness, polishing of skills and generally having a good health. The health part is boosted more by keeping an eye on your diet so that you only take food that is not going to develop limitations for your body. So far, I know most athletes if not all, ensure that they body is fully prepared for the game. On the other hand, preparation of your mind should be geared to achieving only three main objectives: focus, concentration and relaxation. When in sports, one of the things you should keep in mind is that there will be very many distractions. Some, you will be prepared for. Others, will catch you unawares. Training your mind to remain focused and concentrate despite of the surrounding distractions keeps you steps ahead of other athletes who will easily lose focus. Second, athletes who are mentally relaxed and calm, tend to make very good decisions while playing and as a result perform excellently. Those who allow themselves to get anxious and aroused by what is happening around them just do the opposite: make wrong decisions and perform poorly. This is what mental training achieves and that is why it is recommended to any sports athlete. Well, it is time to take your game to the next level.
