If you going to be throwing a party for someone who is about to give birth, you will need to purchase some cut little items to decorate with. I know a great website online where you can get anything you need and it is much more expensive to buy the stuff locally. They have loads of nice baby shower favors and all the stuff you need to decorate the tables and even the cake if you want to make it yourself. My mother decorates cakes so I usually just pick her up some cute things for on top of it. She does a beautiful job every time.
