Good Nutrition Is Important to Unborn Babies and Their Mothers
I never gave much thought about nutrition until I became pregnant. The food I eat is what nourishes my baby, and if I don’t maintain a healthy diet during pregnancy the baby will suffer from it in the future. He or she could have a low birth weight or be born with a vitamin deficiency. Along with taking my prenatal vitamins, the doctor suggested I eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of milk, and eat lean meat as a source of protein. I have to cut down on the amount of fat and sugar I consume and completely eliminate caffeine and alcohol from my diet. In addition to good nutrition, light exercise such as walking is beneficial for the expectant mother. Studies show that moms-to-be who walked or performed some form of exercise had less problems during labor and delivery than those who didn’t. So for the health of my baby, I will eat a nutritious diet and exercise for at least thirty minutes a day. The sacrifices we make for our children start before they are born.
